Northgate Street, Leicester, following the demolition of the girder bridge

Northgate Street, Leicester, following the demolition of the girder bridge

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L1775. View north towards the site of the bowstring girder underbridge that carried the London Extension across Northgates, Leicester. Photographed in July 1981, this is the scene shortly after the bridge was demolished. On the right is the brick abutment, also subsequently demolished, which supported the girder structure. The small hump in the road beyond is where the street crosses the Grand Union Canal.
