Two cranes at the site of Northgates bridge, Leicester

Two cranes at the site of Northgates bridge, Leicester

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L1773. During the final moments of Northgate Street bridge, one crane takes hold of the central support employed for the demolition, whilst the other places the last piece of this girder structure on the pavement. Just as when the bridge was erected more than eighty years before, the event attracts a number of onlookers, witnesses to a familiar scene following the closure of the line in 1969.
