Girder underbridge crossing Northgate Street, Leicester

Girder underbridge crossing Northgate Street, Leicester

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L1764. Taken from the corner of Sanvey Gate in May 1980, this is a fine view of the bowstring girder underbridge that brought the Last Main Line over Northgate Street, Leicester. Built by Henry Lovatt & Co. of Wolverhampton as part of Contract No.2 (Leake to Aylestone), the bridge formed part of the long viaduct that carried the Railway for much of its journey across the city. Fourteen months after this photograph was taken this handsome structure was demolished.
