L1759. Looking towards shop fronts in Northgates through an arch of the Leicester viaduct, photographed on 18.4.1959. Finding a route for the Last Main Line to pass through densely populated urban areas was no small undertaking, and this imposing viaduct carried the railway for much of its journey across the city. Unsurprisingly, both the arch and the buildings opposite have long since been demolished.
