Leicester viaduct pictured during the PEX fire, 1979

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L1758. The truncated Leicester viaduct, photographed ten years after the closure of Leicester Central Station by an observer of the fire at the PEX hosiery factory in August 1979. On the right of the picture is the familiar sight of the viaduct's arches being used for business premises. This particular section of the viaduct has now also been demolished.
