Braunstone Gate girder bridge, Leicester

Braunstone Gate girder bridge, Leicester

Go back to the records from the Leicester North map.
L1735. Taken from the junction of Duns Lane and Braunstone Gate circa 1930, this is a fine view of the bowstring girder underbridge that carried the Last Main Line across Western Boulevard, Leicester. Interestingly, S. W. A. Newton himself took this photograph - some thirty five years after he began, as a teenager, to record the Line's construction. Note the tram wires that pass overhead and the decorative street lighting near the centre of the road.
