L1603. A group of children look on at the 'abutments for the bridge over the canal near Northgates', Leicester (S.W.A. Newton's notes). The bridge formed part of the long viaduct that was built to carry the London Extension through much of the city. This section of the Railway (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone) was constructed by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton between 1894-1899.
