L1601. Girder bridge crossing the canal near West Bridge, Leicester, circa 1897. The bridge's lattice work iron parapet is a typical feature of the Last Main Line. At either end of this girder structure are the brick arches of the viaduct that took the London Extension through much of the city. Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone).
