L1499. This photograph was taken on 21st August 1897 and shows the large girder bridge that carried the London Extension over the Midland Railway's line at Loughborough in Leicestershire. A few hundred yards to the right of the bridge was the site of Loughborough Central Station, and to the left, the yet to be completed embankment would take the line towards East Leake and Nottingham. Both sections of the line on either side of the bridge are now operated by the new Great Central Railways, but sadly the bridge has long since been demolished.
