| L1406. As a resident of Leicester, it was to be expected that S. W. A. Newton would photograph the Midland Railway's London Road Station in the city. The station had been constructed by the Midland Railway in 1893/4, and only predated the London Extension by a few years. Several people have been caught in blurred motion outside the station, while one of Leicester Corporation's trams heads into the city down London Road from Stoneygate. The station is still in use today although in much modified form. However the ornate facade survives and has been given listed building status. | |
