L1400. A very Victorian street scene showing the plate girder bridge crossing what was Conduit Street in the Meadows area of Nottingham. Beneath the deck of the bridge in the distance are rows of terraced houses, while a young girl in her Sunday best stands in the centre of the road, posing for S. W. A. Newton's camera. A lone gas light stands just below the bridge, appearing to be the only source of illumination in the area. Note the wooden screens still in position on the top of the bridge, which had been built by Logan & Hemingway as part of Contract No. 1 (Annesley to East Leake).
